March 2022 Week 2 Recap

I'm glad that I'm so busy in the coming weeks for really happy reasons.

Another week has passed, and do I have much to show for it?  Turns out not a ton, to be honest, but here are the numbers.

Tuesday 3/08

  • Duolingo: 1 lesson, ~5 minutes

Wednesday 3/09

  • Duolingo: 10 lessons, ~60 minutes

Thursday 3/10

Friday 3/11

  • Duolingo: 10 lessons, ~60 minutes

Saturday 3/12

  • Duolingo: 10 lessons, ~60 minutes

Sunday 3/13

  • Duolingo: 10 lessons, ~60 minutes

Monday 3/14

  • Duolingo: 10 lessons, ~60 minutes

Total Time: 6 hours 5 minutes

I have spent most of this week feeling a bit under the weather.  The worst of my illness was last Tuesday, where I called in to work and slept for twenty hours of the day, being awake for long enough to post last week’s blog, eat some food, and whine to my partner for a little bit before going back to sleep.  After Tuesday I’ve felt a lot better, though still not 100% yet.  I should be fully back up to speed by the end of next week at least, can’t imagine it lingering longer than that.  Which is definitely a positive, I have major plans for a couple weeks from now that being sick during would have been a major drag.

None of which is to say much at all about the language learning progress for the week, which as you can see was utterly normal, except that I just skipped out almost entirely on Tuesday.  I was alive enough for one Duolingo lesson to not have to use a streak freeze, but other than that, I slept through the whole day and don’t feel the least bit bad about it.  As I’ve not been feeling well, I kinda paused on the brain-hurty part of language learning for the time being and have only done katakana and hiragana practice lessons.  I’d had that as a main focus for a bit and kinda feel like I’m gonna need to refresh my memory on the actual language-y lessons I’ve already completed once I’m feeling up to pushing back on in that, but my foundation in reading the characters feels a lot stronger now at least.

Things are a little misleading here, based on where exactly I’m at with language learning and me being sick for the last two blogs, but I actually have a bunch of big shakeups going on in the rest of my life.  I recently got a new job at work which is starting in the middle of April that I’m gearing up for, which is going to come with it a big shakeup to my daily work routine and might result in me having better time to work on projects like this as well as other stuff that has fallen by the wayside due to the strain of my current job, which is fine and all, but has been extremely busy for most of the last six months, which has been difficult to deal with.  The new position will also be busy, but it’ll be busy in a different way that should have some more built in calm to it that’ll let me have a more even work-life balance around and during work.  It also comes with a pretty steep raise, which I’m not complaining about one bit.

Additionally, the aforementioned plans in a couple weeks are for a long visit with my partner, who I haven’t seen in person since January.  I’ve been impatiently wanting to see her again ever since, and am glad that I could finally schedule it.  That visit’s probably gonna spell another disaster lack of progress week for this project, but whatever, my priorities are what they are.  That’s taking place for a week at the start of April, so more details and perhaps a ‘lol, ain’t got nothin for ya’ blog will be forthcoming.

Until then, I’m gonna work on feeling the rest of the way better and pluggin’ along on Japanese.  For the four-ish months I’ve been working on this, don’t have a ton to show for it as of yet, and I feel like I probably could have been further along with better time and mental focus to devote to it, but as it is, not sweating it.  Progress is being made.  I’ll get there.

That’s it for this one, TTFN.
