A pretty standard week that’ll likely look pretty familiar from here for a while. I’m slowly edging deeper and deeper out into the lessons and am getting my brain turned inside out as I learn basic sentence structure. Reading is still a major point of contention with me, because there’s just a lot to learn there, two whole writing systems of sounds and a steadily rolling out line of the thousands of kanji that I’m expected to eventually learn. It’s starting to get easier to parse out the sounds into individual words and the bit of reading I can do helps with making sense of stuff that I couldn’t parse out, and all of that together is leading to a growing confidence with it. It’s feeling more and more like learning Japanese is actually achievable, and that’s really cool.
Looking ahead, next week’s gonna be an odd one. I am going out of town for a rather long weekend to have the first actual vacation I’ve taken since 2019. I am totally devoting the stretch to time relaxing with the people I’m visiting and not worrying about anything other than enjoying myself. I don’t plan on sacrificing my Duolingo streak to it (it’s over eleven hundred and fifty days now!), but the full hour of devoted time might prove too distracting from the general vibe of the trip. We’ll see, as there’s inevitably gonna be downtime and wanting to fit a bit of Japanese-learning in while I’m there might hit the spot, but if I end up doing bare minimum on that and instead focus on the people I’m with, not gonna hold that against myself.
Related, the blog for next week lands on one of my travel days, and I may not get to it on time, so there’s a possibility next week’s entry might be a bit late. There will be an entry and all, just not gonna sweat getting it perfectly on time.
