A slightly abnormal week. My Wednesday was unusual, because I had my final licensing exam for work (which I passed, so that little chapter of my life is done now, woo) and was basically given a free day in terms of actual work activities. I ended up treating it as a weekend and watched a big chunk of Tangled, which is growing on me, but I’m doubtful is going to be my favorite show any time soon. I mean, it’s fine, but as I said last week, very, very straight. Anyway, after finishing the licensing, I had a return to normalcy with my actual job and schedule, and as nice as it was to be doing something novel for two months, I missed doing my actual job and am not sad about getting my old schedule back.
On Saturday, after my curiosity was piqued by some favorable reviews, I checked out The Mitchells Vs. The Machines, which I quite enjoyed. It had a few little things that kept it from being, like, amazing or anything, but for the most part it was great. Was not a waste of my time, definitely recommend.
Then, to end out the weirdness for the week, Sunday was Mother’s Day, and I was dang busy all day and basically didn’t have time to work on anything for myself. Which is fine, not torn up about it, but it’s been a while since I’ve had such a lousy day in terms of numbers. Ah well.
Cielo en Llamas is progressing slowly, which is to be expected at this point, but I must admit, I’m gradually enjoying these books more and more. I found the first few rather frustrating, as they continued to touch on similar story beats in a cyclical fashion, making it feel very samey, but that was better on the previous book, and this one seems to be continuing on with that shakeup rather than backsliding into a “safe” direction. There are some elements in the writing I don’t really like—there is a sort of casual sexism with how the books’ characters and prose discuss women that’s annoying, for example—but they’re becoming a better and better time as I go.
Going into next week, I’m expecting some slight unevenness again. Tuesday when this blog is going live, I have the day off because of a doctor appointment I had to schedule at an awkward time, so I’m going to be treating it a bit more like a weekend. Additionally, Wednesday through Friday my work’s being weird for one final stretch while I go through the brief training course on how to use all our proprietary systems to be able to do all the actions that my licensing gets used for. Then, next Saturday, I have some heavy duty plans and might have some slacking-looking stats then, but we’ll see. Fortunately the week after that it’s back to normal work for real and likely a return to normal numbers for a while. Definitely excited for that.
Anyway, that’ll do for this one, TTFN.
