A normalish week all told, though with some odd-looking days thanks to the stuff I’ve been consuming. I finished Steven Universe this week, getting to the finale of the series proper, which was of an odd length, and followed that up with the movie, so the days have not exactly been that uniform in what I watched day-to-day. Having finished it up, I gotta say that Steven Universe is one of the best things I’ve watched in recent memory. It had a little bit of an awkward start, with some growing pains as the show found itself and its main character, but boy, did it grow into something extremely special. Up next in the series is Steven Universe Future, which I cannot for the life of me find anywhere in Spanish.
Not entirely surprised that I can’t find it, as I had to watch everything up to this point using that thing you can do online but don’t really want to talk about in plain language in public venues (something I still don’t feel bad about, I have HBO Max and Hulu, both of which carry the damn show in English, and if they don’t want to provide it to me in Spanish, I feel justified in finding it elsewhere), and apparently it’s new enough that the dub episodes are still coming out, so it’s a bit fresh to be expecting it readily available online through those means. I’m going to table watching Future for now, go onto something else for a bit, then maybe revisit it later. Might end up switching to English and watching it on my own outside of this project just out of enthusiasm, but that won’t impact my plans here. I’ve built up a backlog of youtube stuff I’m currently working through, but after that I’m onto the next show, which I’m thinking might be Over the Garden Wall if I can find it. It’s got the same pesky problem as Steven Universe had. Don’t know why Warner streaming services hold onto their Spanish dubs with such draconic stinginess, but here we are. If I can’t find it, there are a few other options in the usual suspect services of Netflix and Disney+ I can turn to.
Watching stuff aside, I also finished up Memorias de Idhún: La Resistencia this week, pushing through the end by going a bit over my normal time on Friday. I had some rough opinions on this book around the midway to two thirds mark, because there is a romance angle that was just real garbage at the start, but it managed to overcome itself in the end. After weighing options back and forth, my plan is definitely to read the rest of it, but that I’m going to juggle it between La Rueda del Tiempo books and give myself those short, refreshing breaks between the phonebooks that make up that series. Think I’ll have a better time all around. I’ve started in on Cielo en Llamas and will be working my way through that for the foreseeable future.
Overall feeling good about the week, and have been hard at work on lots of things, so I’m gonna keep doing that. That’ll do for this one, TTFN.
