A pretty good week. It was a funky one, as I’m sure everyone can relate to, but mine had the added hiccough of me working Saturday and having Thursday off, which is just something that I have to do once a quarter for my job. On the one hand, I don’t really mind it because Saturday shifts are usually reasonably chill, but on the other hand, having split days off sucks and Thursday was not a good day for “relaxing.” It was right in that perfect window of pure anxiety, because it had been long enough since the election started that it had gotten boring, but far enough from the results that everyone was just waiting for the shoe to drop. I’m overall very glad this week is over, and am happy to never have to think about that election again.
In the world of Spanish studying, I followed through on the vague plan of last week to try out watching an episode of Club de Cuervos to see how my listening comprehension has come along, and I’m left flummoxed. The show has been difficult for me for a couple of reasons, but the biggest one really seems to be because of the damn sound mixing. Ambient noise and music is relentlessly loud in the show and ends up blurring and muddling every goddamn thing everyone says in half the scenes, but when it’s quiet and just a couple of characters talking, I can understand everything they say. When it’s loud, I don’t know, and I honestly have no idea if that’s because of me or because of the show. I feel like I might struggle to understand that sound mixing if it were in English, honestly. So, I don’t know. When I watch it with closed-captions, I’m fine, but I can’t fuckin hear what the closed captions are saying the characters are saying. Maybe it’s a bad yardstick, I dunno.
Outside of the frustration of Club de Cuervos, I have the additional frustration of being kind of at loose ends with other things to watch/listen to. I had another stream archive from Daniel San GMR get deleted from the channel mid-watch, and it was a seven and a half hour stream that got deleted after three days, which is just rude I think, and while there’s a ton of back material on Kiwillius’ channel, I still need a break from his flavor of ineptitude for a little while. I’ve been thinking about rewatching a series, but to be super honest, I am obsessed with The Owl House right now and don’t really want to watch much else in the way of cartoons at the moment, and it is plum not available in Spanish on Disney+. Ugh. I’ll come to some sort of compromise with stuff soon, I hope.
Outside of watching, I crossed the 2/3 mark in La Gran Cacería this week, and am still greatly enjoying it. I’m appreciating the more time available for reading that I get these days, because this series was a bit of a drag when I had to bend and scrape to get through reading time at work, but now it feels like it can go at a reasonable pace.
Anyway, that ought to do for this week. Next week will be a blog written in Spanish like normal, and the week after that will be Thanksgiving, which should be fun. Not, like, actually fun, as still in quarantine, but fun in the sense that I’ll get time off from work. Whee. Now then, to rewatch more of The Owl House. TTFN.
