Gonna get bored pretty quick trying to think of new and exciting ways to say ‘a normal week.’  I’ve continued to make progress working my way through the Duolingo lessons, and I’m starting to retain more and more, so there definitely feels like I’ve got some momentum behind me.  I had the first experience of encountering some Japanese outside of the context of Duo lessons and being able to read it.  It wasn’t much of anything, it was a tweet of some art that said ‘good morning’ in hiragana, but I paused and went “Oh my gosh, I could read that!”  Super nice feeling.

Beyond the little boost of accomplishment from that happening, I’ve mostly just been keeping on with things.  The lessons are slowly getting more and more complex as new stuff gets introduced, and while the pure size of the writing system is kind of overwhelming, I am learning the characters bit by bit and have several kanji I can recognize immediately, and that feels nice, too.  It feels like a very slow process and that I’m still at the extreme beginning, but I’m making some headway here.  I’m hopeful that come this same time next year, I’ll have a much greater handle on things and have progressed to actually reading and listening outside of the malicious little owl’s grasp.

Anyway, that’ll do for this one, bit short but there isn’t a ton to discuss at this point in the project.  Until next week, TTFN.
