This early going time is gonna definitely be a bit on the lackluster side as far as reporting stuff goes. As I discussed last week, I’m trying to pace myself gently with this, as the bulk of the focus is on picking up hiragana and some extremely basic vocabulary. I don’t want to stall out here too long or anything, as I’m going to have to do the same thing all again with katakana before too long and start to learn actual language stuff moreso than writing. I’m not fussing around trying, to, like, perfectly memorize all the characters to where I have perfect recall before moving on, that’s a total waste of time as I’ll naturally get to that perfect memorization delving further into things and picking up more of the language, I’ll naturally get more character practice, and before I know it, it’ll all be second nature. I am, however, not at a stage where I’m comfortable enough to say I can keep going, though, I have some characters down enough to continue, but others I’m not there yet. Once I am there, though, and once I get there with katakana, too, I’m going to be ready to start plowing ahead in earnest.
Japanese aside, this week was unusual of course, thanks to Christmas. I had a three-day weekend that was nice, if not super relaxing, and managed to do a better job balancing around the amount of language focus I wanted to get to in a day over the weekend-y sort of schedule. Next week could potentially be fairly mellow with work, though no guarantees about that, and then January’s shaping up to be a bit on the nuts side of things. Fortunately, I have a planned trip in the middle of the month that I’m extremely excited for, which will also hopefully break up some of the roughness of the oncoming work storm. Unsure how everything is going to end up playing out between those things and language learning, especially the trip which might prove very distracting for working on a project like this, but can’t say. We’ll see as things happen.
That’s all I really have for now, just plugging away on learning these characters. I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and I’ll see y’all next blog in the new year. TTFN.
