A pretty good week overall. I’m making my way through the second season of Amphibia at a pretty good pace, and thus far I’m enjoying it more than I did the first season. First season was fine but, as I mentioned at the time I first watched it, felt incidental, like most of it was filler. Second season doesn’t have that feeling, as although there are lots of stories that don’t directly tie into the overall plot, the show feels like there’s momentum to it and those in-between stories are serving to flesh it out and maintain the pace. Definitely enjoying it as I go.
The weekend once again proved to be rather busy, so not a ton of progress there, but that’s basically to be expected these days. My weekends tend to be rather busy without a convenient slot-in for Spanish studying the way my workday has, and it just isn’t worth sweating over it, I don’t think. It’s been at about this pace of half an hour to an hour of work per day instead of how it used to be where I aimed for 2 hours of watching/listening practice, which means it takes me longer to get through shows now, but I’m unsure that’s a bad thing. I’ve got plenty of stuff I’d like to watch, but there’s no rush.
In the reading department, I’m close to concluding El Cielo en Llamas, with maybe a week and a half worth left in the book. Despite my various grumblings as it’s gone on, I’ve been significantly happier with it in the second half or so, and while I’m still planning on taking a breather with the next book in the Memorias de Idhún series, I’m gonna keep on keepin’ on with La Rueda del Tiempo once I’ve finished that. I don’t think I’m going to come out the other side feeling like it’s my favorite fantasy series—it’s a steep as hell mountain to climb to try and surpass Discworld at this point—but despite frustrations along the way I hope to have an overall positive opinion of it. I’m not one of those readers who loves to hate the stuff she reads, I overall want to like things, and it’s disappointing when stuff almost gets there and ultimately fails. At various times, La Rueda del Tiempo has threatened to be one of those almost-got-there things, but it seems to be edging back into just being enjoyable, which is a thing to celebrate.
Anyway, that’ll do for this week, next week we’ll recap June. TTFN.
