A somewhat unusual week thanks to Thursday.  Thursday marked the first of the three financial licensing tests I’m studying for, which is the thing that’s got my schedule all out of whack.  I passed, which I was glad to find out, as it’s the more difficult one, the other two are add-on licenses that cover less material, so I’ve already climbed the challenging hill here.  Thursday itself was an oddball, because the testing is done at a highly regulated facility to prevent cheating, and from how this whole licensing thing came about from my job, there was a bit of last-minute test scheduling involved, which meant beggars couldn’t be choosers on test locations.  I ended up having a ~90 mile roundtrip to and from the test space, which was about two hours or so altogether, with the rest of the workday for me being scheduled as “you can start studying the material for the next one, if you want, shrugemoji.”  I decided, more or less, to treat it like a weekend instead of a weekday.

In treating it like a weekend, I had the perfect opportunity to cap off finishing The Proud Family tv series with the movie, and … boy howdy, that sure was a surreal ending to a kind of surreal show.  I’m, ah, not quite sure how I feel about The Proud Family overall, it wasn’t a bad show, but I dunno that it was really my style, little too aggressively unconcerned with its own reality or characters.  But it was fine, didn’t hate it.

After finishing it off, I moved on to Steven Universe, which is a show I’ve been wanting to check out from the good word of mouth about it since, like, the show started, it just never really fit cleanly into the stuff I was doing.  Since I started this project, it was on my list of things to get to as well … except it wasn’t available in Spanish.  It was on Hulu, which is a service I have (and never use) bundled with a different service, but only in English, so I kept kicking it and other Cartoon Network shows down the road.

When I signed up for HBO Max this week, I said to myself, finally, a platform that will have Steven Universe in Spanish! and … it didn’t have it.  It had it in English, but no Spanish, which I just don’t really understand.  The Spanish dub exists, and Spanish is a huge market in the US, why is this not a higher priority for streaming services?  Anyway, I’d had it in my head that Steven Universe would be next, so I, ah, found it places online.  That’s not something I usually do, as my tally of money spent on this project month to month should attest to, but seeing as I have two services that I’m paying for that carry the show in the wrong language, I really don’t feel bad about bending that rule.  If HBO Max or Hulu adds Spanish dubs to their lineup, I’ll switch to watching there, but for now, this works.

Anyway, enjoying Steven Universe thus far, the sense of humor is right up my alley and the setting seems interesting.  Steven himself’s a bit of an annoying goober, though, but I hear he and everyone else in the show grows over time, so I’m not writing anything off.  The show’s broken into 11 minute shorts as an episode, so the numbers are gonna look large as I work my way through this.  Considering the amount of material there is for it, I’m gonna be sticking with it for a bit here.  No complaints from me on that so far.

This week also marked me finishing El Ascenso de la Sombra finally.  It was a long read, as these La Rueda del Tiempo books always are, and I enjoyed it quite a bit, the series seems to be finding its footing compared to the first three.  Rather than launching into Cielo en Llamas, the following book, though, I am taking that detour into Memorias de Idhún for a brain refresher.  I’m unsure what I’ll follow it up with, I might feel the need to read the other two of that series before returning to La Rueda del Tiempo, or I’ll go back there and save more of Memorias de Idhún for later.  That’s a decision I’ll make when I get to it.

Anyway, that’ll do for this blog, we’ll wrap up March next week and dive headfirst into April.  TTFN.
