So slightly different week, due to Monday. I took the time off from work because I had a court hearing for legally changing my name (short version: name’s legally changed and I’m waiting on decrees in the mail, the hearing itself was only 20 minutes long, and for 10 of those minutes the magistrate was giving me a book recommendation, lol), so I treated the day more or less like a weekend day. This resulted in me chewing through a lot of Star Vs. the Forces of Evil this week as a result, bringing me to about halfway through the series as a whole. I’ve been enjoying it a lot, though I get why people are so down on the romance subplots in the show. It could be handled worse, but it’s still pretty bad, and I’m pretty down on how heteronormative the show presents the world, considering how wild so much of the rest of it is. Ah well.
Progress through El Ascenso de la Sombra continues at its slow pace. I’m still enjoying it, but there are definitely some things in this book that are grating on me. Specifically how some of the romance stuff in it is handled, which, I mean, you might be noticing a pattern here. I can be rather picky about romance stories on account of romance being my preferred genre as a writer. And it isn’t just that they’re all straight romance which is the problem or something, I’m fine with straight romance when it’s handled well. It just usually isn’t. But enough of me being a snob.
Gonna keep this one nice and short, since I’m mostly just keeping on with how things have been and continuing to live my exciting fast life. I get to file my taxes next week. Yay. TTFN.
