It was a good week. I finished up Amphibia, which while I maintain felt a bit on the incidental side compared to shows that end up being my favorites, ended up being very enjoyable. The season finale left it on a high note, and I’m interested in seeing more once a new season comes out. The characters are pretty fun, and it’s got a good sense of humor.
Speaking of finishing, Amphibia, I made some foolhardy commentary about how afterward my cup would runneth over with choices since the new seasons of Carmen Sandiego and Disenchantment came out. Little did I realize, both seasons are a bit on the short side, which I should have remembered since these are not the first seasons where that’s been the case, but here we are. Carmen Sandiego also proved to be the final season of the show, wrapping up the loose ends and giving a finale to the story they were telling, and … it was okay? I didn’t hate it by any means, but the ending felt a bit on the rushed side. The show ended up feeling a bit stunted, like it had all the right moving parts and ideas, but just not enough time and breathing room to execute everything. Which very well may be exactly what happened, whether from exec issues regarding number of episodes to possible impacts from COVID, but I dunno, could also have been poor planning. Either way, little bummed that’s it, there was a lot of promise to the show.
Disenchantment is also being made short work of, as while the episodes tend to average a bit longer than most, the season is still limited to ten episodes. There is at least one other season in the pipeline, so I have more to look forward to eventually, but this season is going to be wrapped up shortly. After that, I’m definitely gonna be back to the drawing board for shows to watch. I’ve been considering trying out Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, which is a show I’ve heard mostly good things about and have been meaning to check out, much like Gravity Falls before it. I’ve heard some negative stuff regarding the shipping in the show which has kept me wary, but I’d heard that for Gravity Falls, too, and it’s nice to have excuses to just grind through stuff I’ve been meaning to get around to watching.
Don’t have a ton to say about El Ascenso de la Sombra, which I’m still in the early parts of. This one picks up pretty much immediately after where the previous left off, and the events that have happened so far are interesting, so it maybe is going to buck the trend I complained about with the previous book of everything just being the same story. Too early to tell, but I’m hopeful. I’m getting a little tired of the repetition, and I might end up taking a break for something unrelated if this one ends up going the same way. Might be time for another palate cleanser anyway. When reading books that are this long, it can often feel like I’m trapped in the series for ages.
Anyway, that’s about all there is to report for this week, things are mostly just continuing on as per normal. Next week’s numbers might end up looking a little funky, as my Thursday is going to be a little weird due to a doctor appointment, but likely will be right in line with a normal day. Not entirely sure, we shall see. Wild to think we’re already almost all the way through January. The flow of time’s gotten weird. Hope y’all stay well, TTFN.
